7. Batman Vs. Ra’s Al Ghul

Civil War Captain America Iron Man
DC Comics

In the Dennis O’Neil and Neal Adams-created Batman #244, the Dark Knight is pursuing Ra's al Ghul through the snows of Switzerland and, later, an unnamed desert. Confronted, the Demon’s Head said that he would only stop his henchmen from shooting Bruce if the “Detective” agreed to duel him to death.

Both men armed with swords and stripped to the waist, the fight began on the hot sand. As both were expert swordsmen, every thrust was met with the perfect parry and every move with the perfect countermove. The duel went on for hours until dark, with each man not giving any ground until Batman stepped and disturbed a small scorpion, and the arachnid stung him through his boot. Claiming victory, Ra’s left Bruce there to die, but al Ghul's daughter Talia wanted to kiss Wayne “one last time.” What she was actually doing was giving him the antidote for the venom, and in a few hours the Caped Crusader was following Ra’s trail again.

Bursting into al Ghul’s tent, Ra’s must have thought that Batman was some kind of supernatural being. The World's Greatest Detective knocked the villainous eco-terrorist out and said he was taking him to the authorities. When Talia asked if she too was to be arrested, Bruce gave her a long passionate kiss and then threw Ra's over his shoulder and carried him away.
