6. Thing Vs. The Hulk

Civil War Captain America Iron Man
Marvel Comics

Of the many punch-ups between the Thing and the Hulk, the one that occurred in Fantastic Four Vol. 6 #12 and #13 is truly one for the ages!

Ben Grimm freely admits that in the age-old question of who is strongest, it’s the Jade Giant by a long shot. On the threshold of the one week of the year that he returns to his human form, Grimm was looking forward to a romantic island honeymoon with his new wife Alicia... until a gamma-irradiated roadblock landed with a thunderous crash.

The Hulk was battering the Thing back and forth, destroying the island and endangering Alicia and the other inhabitants. As they fought, Ben noticed something odd about the Green Goliath. When Hulk said “My Alicia”, Grimm realized that it was the Puppet Master who was literally pulling Banner’s strings. The Thing tried to appeal to his foe while they traded devastating blows, but he found that the Hulk was happy to be pounding him.

Literally running out of time, the Thing put everything he had into the fight, but the controlled Hulk battered him ferociously, breaking away his rocky skin. Knocked to the ground and with only seconds left, Alicia tells her beau that fights are all about heart and no one has more heart than him.

As such, with one final arm-shattering blow, Ben Grimm delivers a right cross that knocks the Hulk cold before he passes out himself.
