5. Superman Vs. Mongul

In Superman Annual #11, Batman, the second Robin, and Wonder Woman arrived at the Fortress of Solitude to celebrate Superman’s birthday and find him motionless with a strange planet attached to him. The alien warlord Mongul steps out of the shadows and says that it is the Black Mercy and it gives its victim the hallucination of their perfect life. Kal imagines himself married with a son and living the idyllic life on Krypton with his parents close by.

While Diana battled Mongul, Batman struggled to draw Superman out of his hallucination while he pulls at the Black Mercy. Inside his mind, Kal’s dream world begins to break down as he tells his son that he doesn’t think that anything is real. As Bruce succeeds to free Clark and reality slowly flows back in, Supes snaps and violently flies into Mongul, knocking him away from the battered Wonder Woman. They trade punch after violent punch that sends each through the walls and floors of the Fortress.

The pair continue to trade blow after blow, destroying the Intergalactic Zoo, and Mongul grabs Superman’s head in an attempt to crush him. Clark simply says “Burn” as he unleashes his heat vision on the despot, staggering him. After pulling it off of Batman, Robin appeared above the pair holding the Black Mercy with a pair of gauntlets, and dropped it on Mongul, ending the fight.
