4. Iron Man Vs. Captain America

Civil War Captain America Iron Man
Marvel Comics

Kickstarting Marvel's Civil War, the New Warriors attempted to apprehend Nitro and a few other villains far out of their league on the cameras of their reality show in the small town of Stamford Connecticut. Nitro exploded and killed 600 people, including 60 school children, the villains, and all the New Warriors, although Speedball is discovered alive later. Public sentiment quickly turned against superbeings and the Super Human Registration Act is picking up speed in political circles. Sides are chosen, with Iron Man for registration and Captain America vehemently against it.

Many battles and skirmishes occured, and significant losses were had, including the death of Bill Foster, Goliath, at the hands of the clone of Thor. By Civil War #7, the anti-registration side had liberated the “42” Prison in the Negative Zone, and thanks to Cloak, everyone was teleported to New York in front of the Baxter Building.

After battling their way through multiple combatants, Iron Man and Captain America were facing off against each other, trading punches, shield, and repulsor hits over and over again with no one gaining an upper hand. The Vision managed to short-circuit Tony’s armor, and Cap began beating him with his shield. Steve was about to deliver the final blow when police, firemen, and rescue workers tackled him.

With that, Rogers realizes too late that he is not doing what the American people want and surrenders.
