Leave it to Grant Morrison, the shaman of hidden comic book meaning, to unearth new significance in this landmark graphic novel. Alan Moores The Killing Joke is for many the be-all-end-all Joker tale due to its definitive origin story. But Morrison believes its masterpiece status doesnt come from the Jokers beginning, but from his end. Read the comic again and look closely as Batman and Joker share a laugh see Batmans hands come up to Jokers neck, notice the laughter stop as the sirens blare on, feel the silence as the lights go out. Are we reading too much into this? Possibly. I'm just not one to argue with the shrewd and possibly magical Grant Morrison.
