The question of whether or not Scott Snyder would utilize this famous scene from Year One lingered over the story when it was first announced. Its arguably one of the most famous scenes of any Batman story, even being adapted in its own way by Christopher Nolan in Batman Begins. Fans anticipated Snyder using this scene in Zero Year, but also wondered what he could possibly do to put a new spin on it. In a similar manner to Year One, Bruce returns to Wayne Manor bloody and beaten, utterly hopeless and believing perhaps he cannot change the city. He begs his deceased father to show him how to fight the crime and corruption of Gotham City, unknowingly activating a small device his father had given to him as a child. The device was a sonar mapping system and recorded the images of the bat cave Bruce fell into when he was younger and, just like that, the idea comes to him. "Yes, Father. I shall become a bat." Its pleasing to see such an iconic scene on display in Zero Year and drawn beautifully by Capullo, but also places the bottom of the list simply because much of the idea already came from Year One. Regardless, it is a great scene to read.
