10 Best New Marvel Characters Of The 21st Century

8. Doop

Spider-Man Miles Morales
Marvel Comics

Okay, the bonkers pattern does seem to be getting even more outlandish, but after Doop it should stop. Just limboing into this century with a 2001 debut, X-Men’s Doop is a gloriously ridiculous character.

He looks like a floating bogey with arms and eyes, and communicates in his own language complete with a grawlix script. Occasionally this has a bit of an ‘I am Groot’ feel to it, where context clues give away the meaning, but at other times it’s just gibberish.

He goes in for a lot of gross out humour, using his mouth as a Mary Poppins handbag style storage space. He once caused his team mates to be sucked into his mind by popping a pimple too; not really for the faint hearted, this one.

He’s just a loveable goof, and even then a lot of his fellow X-Men would disagree with the loveable part.

It’s easy to see why some are put off by him, and he’s never even threatened to offer character depth. Still, he brings entertainment in spades and the stories he’s in just wouldn’t be the same without him.
