10 Best New Marvel Characters Of The 21st Century

3. Spider-Gwen

Spider-Man Miles Morales

Spider-Gwen possibly contradicts the ‘only new characters rule’, as Gwen Stacy has been around since 1965. However, she hasn’t just had a simple redesign; they’ve turned her from second class love interest into a bona fide superhero.

The woman in the costume might not be a new character, but the Spider-Gwen property itself is only 5 years old. To avoid pushing the limit by pulling the same trick twice, consider Jane Foster’s Thor an honourable mention in this entry too.

Into The Spider-Verse is quite possibly the greatest superhero movie ever, and Spider-Gwen plays a massive part of that. The casting of Hailee Steinfeld was inspired too, as if there’s ever a meta, live action multiverse crossover (anything’s possible these days), she’d be perfect.

She has one of the coolest designs out there. Not just amongst alternate Spideys, or compared to other newbies, but stacked up against the entire Marvel canon. Her look is just that good.

Spider-Man himself is such a great character that it’s hard to go wrong riffing off him. Gwen though manages to add her own take on the character, with much more sarcasm and acid zingers where Spidey is a bit more goofy.
