7. The Flash #182 - Absolute Zero

To say that Geoff Johns has been a critical figure at DC for the past twenty years would still undersell his contributions to the company.
His love for the characters is apparent to anyone who has seen his work on books like JSA, Teen Titans and Green Lantern. He has an uncanny ability to highlight what makes a particular character great and cut away unnecessary, confusing or contradictory layers of continuity (see his run on Hawkman for proof of this.)
Perhaps his most significant work has been on the Flash, a character and world he loves. The scarlet speedster had been a top selling fan favourite but when Johns’ and artist Scott Collins took on the title, it was in a sorry state. The glory days of Mark Waid were long over, and after numerous misfires, most of the Flash's rogues gallery had become a joke. None more so than John's favourite, Len Snart - Captain Cold.
Issue #182 is a love letter to the character and a reminder to not just the Flash but also his readers how badass Captain Cold is. Revolving around tracking down his sister's murderer, this deconstruction of the man beneath the gimmick is equal measures heart-breaking as it is character-defining.
