Kitty Pryde entered onto the scene in the Ultimate universe after the usual 'with great power comes great responsibility' way of thinking led to Peter and long time love interest Mary Jane to take a break from each other. Recently coming out of a relationship with Iceman Bobby Drake, the two found themselves looking for comfort in each other.

Kitty became a regular feature in the Ultimate series and would regularly assist Spidey as well as vice versa if the Ultimate X-Men had any issues where a Spiders touch was needed.

One of the main reasons that this relationship worked so well was the openness between the two. No hidden identities, no protection needed. Both were capable individuals who needed nothing from each other except the affection and support a relationship would bring.
