This 2005 mini-series from Brian Azzarello and Lee Bermejo gives us a different look at the man known as Luthor. For a start the whole story is told from Lex's point of view, giving the reader a closer understanding and a deeper examination of what really makes the man tick. Something that hadn't really happened in comics before.

This version of Lex is a lot different from the one that fans have become accustomed to. He is more benevolent, even going as far as to turn his Science Spire into a non-profit organization, and it seems that it's the so-called heroes that are the ones that shouldn't be trusted.

Throughout the book, it seems that Lex only wants what is best for the human race and when he unveils a brand new superhero, known as Hope, it looks like he very well might just get it. But, as is always the case, there is more going on than first meets the eye.

It turns out that Hope is an Android that Lex has created with the specific purpose of bringing Superman down and during their final battle, Lex detonates Hope, making it appear as if Kal is responsible for her death.

This leads to a final confrontation between the two is powerful enough to have Lex questioning his own humanity.
