10 Best Supervillain Headquarters In Comics

8. Murderworld

Doctor Doom Latveria
Marvel Comics

Murderworld was created by John Byrne and Chris Claremont and first appeared in Marvel Team-Up #66. This ominous title is the name for customized mobile “assassination parks” created by the enigmatic contract killer known only as Arcade. Starting at a base price of $1 million per job, each Murderworld utilizes robots and holograms with some narrative theme to kill the victim. Arcade often finds himself dealing with superheroes, sometimes for the money, to challenge himself, or just for the fun of it. Those encounters rarely go in his favor.

The first Murderworld was built underground in a Manhattan amusement park. Large portions of it resembled a pinball machine with booby traps, mazes, and trap doors. Spider-Man and Captain Britain survived that first encounter and destroyed much of it, but Murderworld was rebuilt and friends of the X-Men were kidnapped to draw them in.

After several failed Murderworlds and repeated defeats by superheroes, Arcade realized that he was considered a joke in the supervillain community. With the assistance of new aide Miss Coriander, the rogue built a massive island arena-style Murderworld under Antarctica. He kidnapped 16 superpowered teens and forced them to run a month-long “kill or be killed” gauntlet. The survivors vowed to never reveal what happened, but Arcade released the entire experience onto the internet as a sadistic reality show, turning the remaining heroes into infamous celebrities overnight.
