10 Best Times Superheroes Came Back From The Dead

7. Nightcrawler

"My name is Kurt Wagner and this is the story of how I fell from Heaven".

With that simple sentence everyone's favourite elf kicks off a five issue story-arc that brings him back from the great beyond.

During 'X-Men: Second Coming', Nightcrawler falls to the arm of Bastion when the villain left his appendage in the space that he was about to materialise into. Deader than the proverbial Dodo, Kurt gets to spend some quality time in Heaven hanging out with Professor X and generally enjoying the afterlife, but there is a nagging feeling in the back of his mind that he still has unfinished business on earth.

When his old man Azazel suddenly shows up and raids the place Nightcrawler sends some of his Bamfs to build a portal inside the Jean Grey School of Higher Learning, allowing his teammates to join him on the other side in battle. A heroic struggle ensues and just when all seems lost Kurt pulls out his last play and sacrifices his soul to banish Azazel and send himself back home, but as he now has no soul he will never be allowed to return.

So, yeah, fire and brimstone for you then Elf.
