10 Best Vampires In Comics

6. Durham Red

Blade Vampires
2000 AD

Originally created as a sidekick for bounty hunter Johnny Alpha (see 2000AD's Strontium Dog) in 1987, Durham Red is a mutant whose 'powers' give her the appearance and bloodlust of a vampire. None of the strength or immortality though - Red is forced to get by on feminine wiles and oversized machine guns.

Red quickly became a fan favourite for publishers 2000AD, and it wasn't long at all before she stepped out from under occasional lover Johnny Alpha's shadow.

Under the stewardship of writer Dan Abnett, Durham Red entered suspended animation (out of boredom), awakening some thousand years later. Regarded by the people of the future as a mythical saint, Durham Red ushered in a new renaissance for humanity (although mistakes were made along the way), ushering in a hopeful new dawn for the mutant race.

No mere sidekick or part time lover, Durham Red is one of 2000AD's most enduring characters, and a fascinating take on the usual vampire mythology.
