10 Biggest Comic Book Bait And Switches

7. Batman And Catwoman Marry - They Really Don't

Batman's newest 50th issue was looking to be a big one. Much time in Tom King's series had been spent on the growing romance between the Dark Knight and Catwoman. The big day had been aggressively advertised to excited fans.

There had been multiple issues that talked about planning for their wedding, along with over a hundred variant covers for #50 - most of which focused on Batman and Catwoman's finally tying the knot. The anniversary issue, literally called The Wedding, was a blatant bait and switch.

Kyle ditches the wedding, fearful that she will destroy Batman by marrying him - as if twenty-six issues of Batman and Catwoman being engaged wasn't proof that Bruce could function as a hero while in a relationship. She writes Batman a weirdly condescending letter about how he's like a traumatised child, and that's what makes him a good hero.

Basically, this rewritten Selina thinks the Dark Knight runs on pain and without being constantly emotionally distraught he'd probably suck at fighting crime. So, she heroically adds to his distress by leaving him at the alter (metaphorically, because it's a rooftop wedding).

Eventually in the series these two do romantically reconcile, but that didn't stop issue #50 from being a disappointment for many fans.

West loves pop culture, movies, comics and TV-shows just as much as you do. Probably. Since you're reading this. Also, she has a cat. He's pretty awesome.
