Giant-Size Spider-Man Issue #1 has a splashy cover that promises an epic meeting between Spider-Man and Dracula. This was a big deal for several reasons. The Comic Code had forbidden vampires and other traditional horror monsters from being in comics, in an attempt to stamp out gory or spooky series.

In 1971, it was decided that these restrictions did not apply to monsters depicted in the style of literary works. Which allowed Marvel to introduce Dracula at a time when vampires in mainstream comics was still rather daring.

Dracula had existed in Marvel comics for a couple of years, but this would be the first time he was thrust into the foreground of Marvel's mainstream superhero comics. It's easy to imagine the excitement for what the story of their first meeting would be.

"Spidey and Dracula - together??" The first page of the comic asks. The answer is: no. They're not together in any sense of the word.

Spider-man as Peter Parker is investigating on a ship, and accidentally bumps his shoulder into Dracula. Peter apologizes, then they both do their own thing, never again directly interacting. Peter does see a bat and finds a passed out woman with bite marks on her neck, but he logically concludes it couldn't have been a vampire because that's not something he believes in.

West loves pop culture, movies, comics and TV-shows just as much as you do. Probably. Since you're reading this. Also, she has a cat. He's pretty awesome.
