Whatever your first exposure to the squid-looking villain Krang was, chances are you thought he was the only one of his kind. After all, he seems like either a science experiment or some kind of mutation himself, and thus it makes sense that he is an exceptional creature.

As such, any of the comics that introduced Krang's alien species, the Utroms, naturally tops this list. Most people likely have a different moment that this wild alien race was first shown to them, as original fans would have first seen them in issue 3 of the 1985 run, whereas newer fans could have learnt this strange truth just from the cover of the especially unusual TMNT: Utrom Empire series.

However, this small detail is most entertainingly revealed in issue 13 of the 2012 run, where Krang's brain-like family are revealed to us in a series of test tubes, in a scene that looks like it was lifted clean out of some Star Trek series.

If there's one thing that can bring all these different fans together though, it's on mutually agreeing that the little Utrom squid men are simply the wildest aliens to ever be introduced into a series that you didn't expect to have aliens.
