10 Characters Marvel And DC Don't Know What To Do With

7. Doctor Doom

Spider-Woman New Outfit
Marvel Comics

In recent years, Doctor Doom had his scars healed, abandoned his supervillain persona, abdicated his throne, allied with the Fantastic Four, became Iron Man, seemingly reunited with his dead mother, battled the Devil, got scarred again, reclaimed his throne, became evil again, was framed for murder before being murdered himself, and was resurrected.

If that sounds confusing, all of those stories occurred in four years! In comics, it can take months or years to develop a story arc. However, Doom's circumstances have changed more times than I can count in the last half-decade.

If the writers over Doom's series want to revise the character, that's fine. But when they make a decision on where his story arc is going, they need to stick with it. Is Doom a monarch or not? Is he scarred or not? Is he Iron Man or not? Is he evil or not? It's like the writers didn't know what story to tell so they just tried everything, hoping something would stick.

The annoying thing is that a lot of the stories mentioned are well-paced and entertaining but become confusing when the story flips on its head for the sake of spectacle.
