As we've seen with Civil War setting the stage for the Black Panther movie and Spider-Man: Homecoming, Marvel like to use their films as a springboard for other franchises. If Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is going to do the same for the cosmic side of Marvel, then their top space cop seems like a good place to start.

In a story that combines the best parts of Spider-Man and Green Lantern, teenager Richard Rider was given the Nova Force by dying Centurion Rhomann Dey. The force transformed Richard into a member of the Nova Corps and gave him the ability to fly at incredible speeds and fire blasts of energy.

When the Annihilation Wave appeared, Nova stepped up as head of the Nova Corps and served as the galaxy's main defender until he died trying to trap Thanos in an alternate dimension. His powers were then passed on to another teenager by the name of Sam Alexander.

While the Nova Corps themselves appeared in the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie, they were a far cry from the superpowered version seen in the comics. However, James Gunn has said that there's always a chance for Nova himself to make an appearance.

With Richard and Sam now both active in the comics, it seems likely that at least one of them will make the jump over to the MCU.
