10 Characters Who Should Appear In Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3

7. Cosmo The Spacedog

Vance Astro Marvel
Marvel Comics

Inspired by Laika, the real-life first dog in space, Cosmo was a test animal for the Soviet space program. He was sent up into Earth's orbit as part of an experiment, but his ship ended up drifting off into the Milky Way.

While floating through space, Cosmo was mutated by cosmic radiation. His gained a greatly increased lifespan and the ability to communicate telepathically.

Eventually, Cosmo's spaceship ended up at Knowhere, the giant city made out of a celestial's head. Cosmo made Knowhere his home and was later made its head of security.

This led to him having several run-ins with and eventually joining the first modern incarnation of the Guardians of the Galaxy (the team was still led by Star-Lord, but was more of a proactive superhero team than the interstellar scoundrels we know and love) who used Knowhere as a base of operations.

Cosmo the Spacedog is that perfect blend of weird and adorable that always results in a popular character. Fans have been calling out for him to be a part of the movies and he has actually made cameo appearances in both films. However, he is a great character who deserves to have a full speaking (well telepathically projecting) role in the next film.
