10 Classic Villains Reimagined By Batman '66
8. Clayface
False Face appeared one time in the Batman comics before
making his way onto the TV show, and only featured in one adventure. This is due to
his mask scaring children, which is kind of ironic as his character was a
substitute for Two-Face, who was deemed far too gruesome (and expensive) for
live-action.
Played by Malachi Thorne, False Face was credited simply as "?" in the first episode of his two-parter.
Malachi has gone on record for saying this was his idea, as he felt anyone could have performed under the mask. The media went crazy speculating who it could be, dropping names like Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr., and Carey Grant.
So why mention False Face in this list if he debuted on the live-action show? Well, this master of disguise shares a lot of characteristics with the squidgiest member of Batman's gang of foes, Clayface. So, the comics decided to expand the False Face's back story by giving him the name Basil Karlo, thus evolving him into Batman '66's version of Clayface.
