10. Cyclops (Marvel Comics)

Arguably the most obvious character in the entirety of fiction, with regards to having the ability to fire blasts from his eyes, is Cyclops. Cyclops is Scott Summers - a founding member and leader of the heroic Marvel comic book team, the X-Men. The X-Men are a team of mutants - humans born with an extra gene that grants them a particular power or power-set. In Summers' case, that power was the ability to fire what are known as optic blasts from his eyes. He has no other powers aside from this, though he is a brilliant leader, tactician and hand-to-hand combatant. He is quite well-known for his long-standing rivalry with fellow X-Man, Wolverine, though the pair do occasionally show each other mutual respect. His optic blasts are incredibly powerful and have been known to destroy large areas of woodland. The blasts constantly emanate from his eyes involuntarily and can generally only be stopped by his own eyelids (i.e. by closing his eyes) or by shielding his eyes with "ruby-quartz" - a translucent mineral. Cyclops wears ruby-quartz as lenses in glasses or in his visor, which is generally the only way for him to safely see without inadvertently damaging his surroundings and the people around him.
