10 Comic Book Characters That Broke Wolverine

4. Romulus

Hulk V Wolverine
Marvel Comics

According to legend, Rome was founded by a wild man called Romulus. Wolverine always assumed this tale was nothing more than a myth. Not only is Romulus very real, he is directly responsible for creating Wolverine.

Romulus sees himself as the original wild man. As he grew weary over the centuries, he sought out other wild men like Sabretooth and Wolverine to be his potential successor. When he realised the pair had potential as his heir, he hired them both as his personal mercenaries. When Romulus learned of Weapon X's experiments, he ordered Wolverine to volunteer to become virtually unkillable, making him a worthy replacement to Romulus.

Because Wolverine lost his memory and was taken in by the X-Men, Romulus lost control over him and so, he found a new potential heir; Wolverine's son, Daken. Romulus manipulated Daken from birth, feeding him lies about his father. By the time he was a man, Daken's greatest ambition was to slay his father to make Romulus proud.

Wolverine sees Romulus as one of his greatest adversaries since he is responsible for Wolverine losing his memory and his son.
