10 Comic Book Characters Who Didn't Deserve The Hate

6. Sentry

Riri Williams Ironheart
Marvel

Sentry is, in all due fairness, legitimately totally overpowered. He's supposedly one of the strongest entities in the Marvel universe - with Professor X once casually stating that the hero's powers were at 'godlike' levels. So hate surrounding this does make sense, as every major fight could be solved by just Sentry if he wanted to.

But Sentry is also a prime example of a character whose incredible powers are balanced out with considerable flaws. Most notably, Robert Reynolds battles with a serious drug addiction, which moves him significantly away from the flawless, perfect visage that people criticise other powerful heroes like Superman for. He's got severe mental health problems, and a literal fear of being outside - meaning it doesn't matter how powerful he is, because he's also basically his own arch-rival.

With this in mind, Sentry's character becomes a lot more complicated - and a lot harder to hate. The character manages to both show that even the strongest people have their demons, and that your own personal struggles don't have to stop you from doing the things you want to do in life - even if that's just getting the groceries on a bad day, instead of saving the world.
