10 Comic Book Characters Who Have NEVER Had Their Identities Exposed

1. V

Hal Jordan Green Lantern
DC Comics

Alan Moore's V for Vendetta is one of the greatest graphic novels of all time, and while it deals with everything from fascism to fanaticism, it does keep one thing secret throughout the entire series: the identity of the main character.

V was once imprisoned in a concentration camp, where he was tortured and put through horrific experiments. The result of these gave him an incredibly high tolerance for pain and an overall enhanced physique. When he escaped, he hid his face behind a Guy Fawkes mask and launched a vendetta campaign against the people responsible for his torture.

At no point in the book does V reveal what his real name is, and very little is even intonated about his past. All that is known is his connection to the people he has targeted, and the fact that he was once imprisoned in the Larkhill Resettlement Camp, where he was tortured.

By the end of the book, he finished killing all of the bad guys and delivered a deadly message that all forms of government will eventually lead to fascism. His desire for anarchy effectively rendered his identity moot, and the story closed out without anyone ever knowing who he was, to include the readers.
