10 Comic Book Characters Who Have NEVER Had Their Identities Exposed

9. The Sentry

Hal Jordan Green Lantern
Marvel Comics

The Sentry has one of the most interesting backstories in all of Marvel Comics due to the way he was introduced in 2000. Marvel described the character as one who was "forgotten" by Stan Lee, and his history was shown to extend well back into the Silver Age before the creation of the Fantastic Four.

His history was retconned from the Marvel Universe such that nobody could remember who he was, or that he ever existed. That turned out to be a creation of his own powers, which exist in a duality between the Sentry and the Void, his alternate self who represents the death of all living things.

Using Reed Richards tech and Doctor Strange's magic alongside the Sentinel's own abilities, his existence was wiped from the minds of everyone, including himself. Eventually, this changed, and he "returned" to the Marvel Universe, a schizophreniac agoraphobe who suffered from the delusion that he killed his wife.

There are several superheroes and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. who know the Sentry as Robert Reynolds, but his identity was never made public. He remained a major part of the Marvel Universe's crossover events in World War Hulk, Dark Avengers, and Siege but ultimately died at the end of Siege #4 at the hands of Thor, who disposed of his remains in the Sun. Eventually, he was resurrected as all comic book characters eventually are, but his identity continues to remain a secret.
