10 Comic Book Characters Who Have NEVER Had Their Identities Exposed

8. Hooded Justice

In the Watchmen Universe, Hooded Justice was the first person to throw on a mask, and fight crime. Throughout the original Watchmen series, Hooded Justice's real name is never confirmed to the public, nor to his teammates on the Minutemen, though there was some speculation.

When Hollis Mason, the original Nite Owl, wrote his autobiography, "Under The Hood," he speculated that Hooded Justice's true identity was that of circus strongman Rolf Müller, but after DC published the Before Watchmen series, this information was retconned to indicate he wasn't Müller, a man who apparently sexually abused and killed children; rather, he was likely his son, Jacob.

In the retcon, Mason was shown to be the one who ended Hooded Justice's life, when he believed him to be Müller. Mason attacked him, and snapped his neck, killing him instantly. Later, it was revealed that the Comedian was responsible for planting the suspicion in Mason's mind that H. J. was Müller, making him responsible for his death.

Even through the retcon, after he was killed, H. J. wasn't unmasked. His body was burned when the hero's headquarters was set alight by Captain Metropolis, his former lover. The television series changed his identity and confirmed him to be Will Reeves, though that identity wasn't revealed to the world either.
