10 Comic Book Characters Who Keep Changing Identities

1. The Robins - Twelve Superhero Identities

Characters Who Keep Changing
DC Comics

Instead of splitting up the Robins into different entries, it's far easier to lump them all together, seeing as six people have been called Robin in the comic books. The first to be called the Boy Wonder was Dick Grayson, and he remained a teenage superhero for 44 years.

He then retired the red and yellow to become Nightwing, but after sporting that name for a few decades, he opted for another, calling himself Batman after his mentor was seemingly killed. Grayson then called himself Target, followed by Agent 37. He was succeeded by Jason Todd, but the fans hated him and voted for his death at the hands of the Joker.

Eventually, he returned to take on the name Red Hood before changing to Arkham Knight for a while. After Todd's apparent death, he was replaced by Tim Drake, who remained Robin for 20 years before stepping aside, so Damian Wayne, Bruce's son, could take on the role of Robin.

Seeing as the name of Robin was taken, Drake started calling himself Red Robin for a while. There was/will be a fifth Robin thanks to Carrie Kelley's role in The Dark Knight Returns, but she only managed one superhero identity in those books. Stephanie Brown was temporarily the fourth Robin, and she's had a bunch of identities as well. All told, the many Robins have held a total of 12 identities (excluding duplicate Robins, Red Robins, and Batmen, which would push the number to 21).
