As many have realized over the last two decades, Japanese animation is greatly eclipsing its Western counterpart. And by Western I mean only us really. The same thing is slowly becoming true with comic books as well, which has caused major comic companies to take notice of what works for them. They've started incorporating more mature subject matter; they've started introducing a less rigid aesthetic, and they've started using more understated pencilling and inking. Actually, they've done absolutely none of these things because I just made it all up. What some companies - we'll call them Marvel - have done is simply create a tragically shallow branch of comics that take on "Manga influences" such as big eyes, big boots, and big artistic failures. I can't wait till they learn about tentacle rape. Example: X-Men Let's go down the list of problems here. Wolverine has lightsaber claws, an omega tattoo on his face, and the extremely well protected shoulders. Storm has luminescent paneling, a cape that Spawn would find overblown, and afro puffs. Cyclops has a penis mask that connects to a burka and a lite brite X symbol. Jean Grey has thigh-high robot boots and a slutty Jetson's schoolgirl outfit. Rogue is lucky enough to only have dumb green hair. And , I don't know the girl in the front but I hope she has a good reason for only having one sleeve on her arm. And only one full boot. Oh and the X-Men symbol is now crossed swords because that's clearly more Asian. On the bright side though, there are no tentacles.
