10 Comic Book Covers That Totally Lied To You

1. Fantastic Four #180

Daredevil #179
Marvel Comics

Fantastic Four cover art is often iconic, and from the very beginning, the series' covers managed to draw readers in to buy the books. The series is one of the publisher's best and most beloved, but the cover art doesn't always jive with what happens as soon as you open it to the first page.

Fantastic Four #180 is a perfect example of this problem, though it does feature some amazing cover art. In the center, the Thing stands with Tigra, Thundra, and Impossible Man, standing over Silver Robot as the United States Army is preparing to fire on them with everything they have.

It's a great cover, but it has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with the story within. This issue represents an example of Marvel pulling a fast one on the readers. While it may be numbered #180, this issue is actually a complete reprint of Fantastic Four #101!

Open the book, and you'll find a story that has no Tigra, no Thundra, no Impossible Man, no Silver Robot, and no Army! They aren't there because they have nothing to do with the story. Instead, the book features a tale called "Bedlam in the Baxter Building," and while it's a great FF adventure, it's not what the cover describes.
