1. Superman And Doomsday Die Together

Superman had never fought a foe like Doomsday. He could not be reasoned with or dissuaded, he didn’t want money, power, or world domination, and Doomsday simply wanted to destroy.

Doing an excellent job of that, Doomsday thwarted anything that the police or military threw at him, and he'd likewise easily dominate Earth's premier superteam.

Justice League International confronted this otherworldly beast, and despite having some heavy hitters like Guy Gardner, Maxima, and the enigmatic Bloodwynd in their ranks, Doomsday decimated the League and injured many of the heroes so severely that they needed medical attention. By the time Superman joined the fight, the creature was close to Metropolis. Clark quickly realized that he would not have to pull his punches as he did when battling everyone else. Nothing less than his full strength would even faze this monster.

Culminating in Superman #75, the battle raged from the outskirts of Metropolis to its very center, as the Man of Steel made his last stand at the steps of the Daily Planet. He traded blow after devastating blow with Doomsday, and the shock waves from their blows were so great that they shatter windows in all directions, blew over cars, and pushed anyone foolish enough to still be on the streets away.

The nearly-spent hero put all his remaining power into one final blow that struck Doomsday and finally killed the creature. Clark collapsed and Lois pulled his bloodied body into her lap. He only had enough time to ask if Doomsday was dead before dying himself.
