10 Comic Book Inventions That Could Actually Change The World

6. Lazarus Pits

Batman€™s nemesis Ra€™s Al Ghul obtained a measure of immortality via the use of €˜Lazarus Pits€™ - a concept created by Dennis O€™Neill and Neal Adams in 1972. Essentially, a Lazarus Pit is a bubbling clay pit that can restore a sick person to health, or a recently dead person to life. However, for a brief time afterwards, the user tends to be super strong and slightly insane (hey, its comics!). In addition to Ra€™s, there are many instances of other characters using Lazarus Pits. The Riddler hijacked one in order to heal an inoperable brain tumour in Hush, whilst Batwoman used one to heal herself after being fatally wounded in a mineshaft collapse during the events of the Blackest Night. Just imagine what could happen if we could synthesize Lazarus Pits and put them on the NHS! Instant panacea. With Lazarus Pits, all disease (and even death) could be eradicated almost overnight. Now that€™s a resource worth having!

I am a professional author and lifelong comic books/pro wrestling fan. I also work as a journalist as well as writing comic books (I also draw), screenplays, stage plays, songs and prose fiction. I don't generally read or reply to comments here on What Culture (too many trolls!), but if you follow my Twitter (@heyquicksilver), I'll talk to you all day long! If you are interested in reading more of my stuff, you can find it on http://quicksilverstories.weebly.com/ (my personal site, which has other wrestling/comics/pop culture stuff on it). I also write for FLiCK http://www.flickonline.co.uk/flicktion, which is the best place to read my fiction work. Oh yeah - I'm about to become a Dad for the first time, so if my stuff seems more sentimental than usual - blame it on that! Finally, I sincerely appreciate every single read I get. So if you're reading this, thank you, you've made me feel like Shakespeare for a day! (see what I mean?) Latcho Drom, - CQ
