10 Comic Book Moments That Were Profoundly Insulting

Comics: Multiple issues between Green Lantern Corps #206 (1986) and Action Comics #620 (1988)

What Happened: Hal Jordan has always been something of a flirt with the ladies, and this was part of his charm, but things changed when he started dating fellow Green Lantern, Arisia. The character was originally introduced as a way to bridge the gap with younger fans, which is why she was only 13-years-old.

She immediately had a schoolgirl crush on Jordan, and who can blame her? That being said, he kept his distance... at first. He even called her "little sister" for a bit, but later, her body was matured to that of an adult woman, fully equipped with—ahem—the wares a man like Jordan could appreciate.

The two began to date, and the affair lasted for quite a long time in the books. The couple even made jokes about their relationship, and how it looked to the other members of the Green Lantern Corps. Eventually, they broke up, but they did date for a long time.

Why Was It Insulting: While she was matured physically to an adult, she still had the mind of a child. The very idea of thinking it was appropriate to date her suggested Jordan would date any child, so long as she had a body that approached that of an adult. It's sick, it's statutory rape, and it's insulting to every reader's core.
