10 Comic Book Origin Changes Fans Hated
3. Quicksilver & Scarlet Witch
When Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch made their debut in Marvel Comics, they were villains who belonged to the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants. It wasn't long before they switched sides and became members of the Avengers when Captain America reorganized the team.
The pair were raised believing that Whizzer and Miss America were their parents. The two Golden Age heroes fit, but it turned out that their belief was based on a lie. In reality, they were the children of Magneto, the Master of Magnetism, and that relationship remained canon for years.
Unfortunately, the longstanding parentage of the twins got kicked to the curb, and it wasn't because the writers wanted to offer up something new and interesting; it was due to the rights associated with the characters. Fox owned the rights to the mutants, and Disney/Marvel decided the best way to handle it was to change their origin.
It was revealed that Magneto was not their father, and their original foster parents were their actual parents. In addition to that, they learned that they were normal kids who were experimented on by the High Evolutionary, resulting in the powers that later manifested. They got another retcon a bit later, and it was revealed that their birth mother was Natalya Maximoff, the magician who was known as the Scarlet Witch long before her daughter.
