10 Comic Book Origin Changes Fans Hated

4. Wonder Woman

Harley Quinn Origin Heroes in Crisis
DC Comics

Everything about Wonder Woman's origin story from the Golden Age of Comics was mythological, and it remains so to this day. That doesn't mean it's still the same, and the changes made to her over the years completely alter who she is and even why she is the amazing Amazon we all know and love.

Originally, and for much of her publication history, her origin came as her mother, Queen Hippolyta, wanted a child after establishing the Amazonian home on Paradise Island. To fulfill her wish for a child, she sculpted one out of clay with guidance from the goddess Aphrodite.

The goddess brought the child to life, and as she grew and matured into a woman, she developed the skills and strength of an Amazon warrior. All of her skills were the result of training, but this would ultimately change when the New 52 came around, and the whole clay kid business was little more than a cover story.

It turns out that Wonder Woman wasn't "born of no man" as we all believed for decades; she was actually the daughter of Zeus. The story was created to protect the child from the wrath of Hera, Zeus' wife. All of the mystique and magic were dumped for a horny god's liaison with an Amazon woman on Earth, and like so many modifications made over the years, it weakened the character from her original incarnation.
