10 Comic Book Superheroes Who Created Their Own Worst Enemy
1. Batman And The Joker
In the world of comics, there are a few stories that are viewed by fans universally as the best stories the media has to offer. In the case of the Dark Knight, there is one that stands out above all other stories. This is, of course, The Killing Joke by Alan Moore, which not only infamously saw Barbara Gordon become paralysed, but also showed how the dynamic between Batman and the Joker all began.
While the Joker has an endless number of origin stories, The Killing Joke is hailed as the most likely story, even influencing the Oscar-winning 2019 Joker film's story. In both The Killing Joke and the New 52 story "Bright New Yesterday," the Joker is portrayed as a man wearing a solid red hood that is trapped into fighting the Batman.
Whether a leader of the Red Hood Gang, or a failing comedian down on his luck who was tricked into becoming the monster that he always becomes, the Joker always meets the Batman on the same catwalk and the two always end up fighting until the inevitable end comes: the Joker falls into a vat of chemicals that permanently bleach his skin pure white, and his hair a bright green.
While Batman never truly intended for this outcome to occur, it always happens no matter what comic universe you look into. In the end, Batman always creates the Joker - arguably the biggest mistake he has ever made in his decades-long career as the Caped Crusader.
