10 Comic Book Superheroes Who Created Their Own Worst Enemy
2. Spider-Man And Venom
There is perhaps no superhero in any comic book company with a more iconic rogues gallery than Spider-Man. The web-crawling friendly neighbourhood Avenger has created more headaches for the Marvel Universe than any other hero. And one of the most iconic and dangerous villains Spider-Man created was the black-suited parasite known as Venom.
While Venom's origins have changed as most comic books stories do when revised, the original origin for the Venom symbiote started in the first Secret Wars event when Spider-Man's original suit had become so damaged he was forced to search through an array of devices that belonged to the Beyonder, the all-powerful being that created the Secret Wars event.
But instead, Peter accidentally found a device that replaced the classic red and blue with a black and white suit. At first, Peter loved the new suit, but quickly came to realise that the suit was not only alive, it was also trying to take over Peter's body and mind.
Eventually, Peter was able to rid himself of the suit using sound waves from a church bell. But just below the bells was a disgraced reporter named Eddie Brock - a reporter whose life had been completely destroyed by Spider-Man though unintentionally.
The Venom Symbiote was drawn to Eddie and the pair bonded and fuelled each other's hatred of Spider-Man and set about becoming one of the web slinger's worst foes.
