10 Comic Book Superheroes Who Created Their Own Worst Enemy
3. Wally West And Zoom
To many DC fans, Wally West is the true Flash, having taken the mantle after the Crisis on Infinite Earths event which saw the horrific death of Barry Allen. Wally West held the mantle of Flash from 1986 to 2009 and had created many of his own worst enemies. One of which was his own version of the Reverse-Flash called Zoom.
Zoom started out as Wally West's best friend Hunter Zolomon, who knew that Wally was the Flash and offered his support as a metahuman profiler in Keystone City's police department.
But Zolomon and Wally's friendship came to an end when Gorilla Grodd attacked Iron Heights Penitentiary, paralyzing Zolomon from the waist down.
Hunter Zolomon begged Wally to use Barry's Speedforce Treadmill to go back in time and not only prevent Zolomon's paralysis but also everything else that had gone wrong in his life. When Wally refused in order to preserve the timestream, Zolomon used the treadmill himself.
When the treadmill exploded Zolomon became infused with the speed force, and was able to not only change some of the worst events in his past but also decided to change Wally's past in order to make him a better hero, by giving him a darker past. Thus Hunter Zolomon became the evil speedster Zoom, who would cause untold suffering for Wally West and everyone close to him.
