6. John Wick

Die Hard Year One
Dynamite Comics

The John Wick movie hit cinemas with a bang in 2014. The mix of Hong Kong action with the polished glitz of American thrillers meant that it boasted a massive appeal. Plus with the basic plot of a highly skilled assassin coming out of retirement to kill the people that killed his beagle. The hook for many people after the film was the mysterious history from Keanu Reeves’ titular role, as well as the a rich universe of a giant assassin organization.

Then three years later, around the time of the sequel, a five issue prequel comic came out to give John Wick’s backstory. The comic answers a lot of the questions people have about the character, such as how he entered into the league of assassins and the epic war that gave John Wick the name Baba Yaga.

Seeing Wick's entrance into the community that he re-enter in the films gives this comic a special edge.
