10 Comic Book Villains Whose Origins Are A Mystery

6. The Stranger

The Joker
Marvel Comics

The Stranger was a mysterious cosmic entity who divulged precious little about himself. He once claimed to be the composite being of billions of humanoids from the planet Gigantus. The planet was destroyed by the Eternals and their own composite entity, the Overmind. This origin was proven false but he may well be a member of the Gigantian race. Regardless, he had cosmic powers comparable to The Watchers or Galactus.

The Stranger was responsible for the creation of Ego The Living Planet. He accomplished this by merging every living thing orbiting his home star with the scientist Egros. The entity had created another planet named Alter Ego and was going to set the two planets against each other but The Collector took that world. He also manipulated the evolution of the mutant species of Earth for decades.

The Stranger traveled to Earth on multiple occasions in modern times. He once kidnapped Magneto and Toad and believed that these powers could destroy other planets if left unchecked. The enigmatic alien was convinced by the Hulk and a human scientist that the human race had the potential for good. Thanos banished him and a number of other cosmic beings to the Cancerverse with a Cosmic Cube, but they were saved by the Avengers.
