10 Comic Books That Are Definitely Not For Kids
4. Lost Girls
Speaking of Alan Moore, the writer put out a book in the early Nineties that most have forgotten all about. While it may not have been his most popular book, Lost Girls certainly shook the comics industry to its core, but maybe not for the best reasons.
The book follows the unlikely trio of Alice (of Alice in Wonderland), Dorothy (of Wizard of Oz) and Wendy (of Peter & Wendy). Three characters lifted straight from children's books, and put into situations that were definitely not suitable for their original audiences.
The three met at a mountain resort in Austria on the eve of World War I. They get together and share stories of erotic situations from their past, from masturbating during a tornado to unsettling tales of forced sexual encounters with family friends.
This was far from the pleasant tales we were used to from these characters and the book drew heavy criticism and became the subject of various legal troubles when it came to distribution.
In the UK, there were fears that the book could be illegal to possess under the Coroners and Justice Act, which criminalises any sexual image depicting a "child"; however, the book was approved and remains on sale to this day.
