10 Comic Books That Should Never Become Movies

4. Clone Saga (Spider-Man)

Spider-Man Clone SagaPremise: It is revealed that the Spider-Man we've all been fans of for decades, the one we've put all of this emotional stock in, is in fact an impostor, a clone. Another Spider-Man is introduced as the real superhero, and we're basically all left wondering what the Hell we just read. Why It Wouldn't Work As A Movie: For starters, it's one of the most insanely contrived and convoluted comic book arcs out there, taking the beloved character and all of his achievements and then just throwing them away. Can you imagine if at the end of The Amazing Spider-Man 3 in a few years time, another Spidey shows up and says that Andrew Garfield is just a clone? Wouldn't we feel totally jipped? Of course, and that's just after 3 films, rather than the decades and decades of stories that fans have spent their hard money collecting. I don't think there's a director on Earth who would dare adapt this arc, because it wouldn't be brave - it would be just plain stupid. The Clone Saga goes beyond impropriety to being downright moronic; the amount of backpedaling that has to be done to make this one work, the shoehorned explanations of previous events, makes for one of comic lore's more dispiriting and cheap tricks.
