10 Comic Books You Didn't Know Were Written By Celebrities

3. Mother Of Madness - Emilia Clarke

Umbrella Academy Gerard Way

Is there anything that Emilia Clarke cannot do? The English actor played one of the greatest heroines of the 21st century in Daenerys Targaryen, she is a part of the Star Wars universe, is soon to join the MCU with Disney+'s Secret Invasion, and is the perfect pick for many fans should DC decide to recast Amber Heard's Mera.

As well as all of the above, in 2021 the Game of Thrones alum had her very own comic book released by Image Comics. Mother of Madness has been described as a cross between Deadpool and Fleabag, and the three-issue series was incredibly well-received.

As something of a commentary on gendered double standards, and the supposed weakness of feminine emotions, Clarke has created a strong character in a great story, with a powerful message, all to the tune of a wonderfully over-the-top comic book about a single mother who fights crime on the side.

The whole idea came from Clarke wanting to see a superhero who wasn't perfect, whose powers come from her menstrual cycle, and who could be relateable. It seems that everything about this character and the comic itself has been a hit with audiences, so the aspect of more in the future, either on the page or on the screen certainly isn't out of the question.
