7. Baron Zemo

Marvel Comics

Baron Heinrich Zemo is one of the most important villains in Captain America's history.

A high ranking member of the Nazi party, Zemo used his brilliant mind to create weapons of mass destruction for the party. He wore a purple hood to protect his identity but, after a fight with Captain America knocked him into a vat of experimental adhesive, it became permanently attached to his face.

In the dying days of WWII, Zemo got his revenge by tying Cap and Bucky to a plane rigged to explode. The explosion seemingly killed Bucky and threw Cap into the Arctic Ocean, where he was frozen in ice.

Decades later, Captain America was found by the Avengers and revived. When Zemo found out about this, he tried again to kill his old enemy, this time recruiting Black Knight, Radioactive Man and Melter to form the Masters of Evil.

The Masters would fight the Avengers several times, but always failed to beat them. In a final plot, Zemo kidnapped Rick Jones and used him to lure Cap to his jungle hideout. The two fought and Zemo ended up getting killed by a landslide.

Despite being the one who brought Cap to the present day, Zemo has never been brought back to fight him. However, his son Helmut has made a name for himself as one of Cap's archenemies.
