10 Comic Heroes You Weren't Supposed To Like

2. Rorschach

In 2009, Alan Moore brought Watchmen to the world, in what almost instantly became a classic story of the genre. It was lauded by fans and critics alike, and was completely unique in its depiction of what a worst case scenario, real life superhero world would look like.

Though there was not one particular character that could be described as the 'main' character, with the likes of Nite Owl, The Comedian, and Doctor Manhattan, among others, Rorschach was possibly the most important character. The story was told through his perspective, but his impact on the story went even deeper.

Rorschach was intended to be the epitome of a superhero gone wrong, as a violent thug having no problem killing those he deemed guilty, and having absolutely no one to answer to. The character was intended to highlight the fact that having a 'superhero' in your neighbourhood would end in catastrophe.

However, to creator Alan Moore's chagrin, fans almost entirely missed the point of the character, and he became wildly popular from the very beginning. Though he was never supposed to be liked, his no nonsense attitude and complex development resonated with fans in such a way that Moore never saw coming.
