4. Magog Was Designed As A Dig At Cable

Kingdom Come is one of the best stories in the history of DC. An epic, sprawling tale, that was expertly handled by Alex Ross and Mark Waid, it always rates high on any "Best of..." list that involves capes and cowls.

But look closely, and there's more to this book than first seems.

The antagonist, Magog, seems to look slightly familiar. With one robotic arm, a glowing yellow eye, and belts and pouches coming out the wazoo, it didn't take long for people to put two and two together and ask "Is this a take on Cable?"

During a look back on its ten year anniversary, CBR had a sit down with Alex Ross and asked if it was true that his design was a reaction to all the characters popping up in the 1990s.

Ross said: "Yeah. That's a character that Mark Waid invented that was really just put to me like come up with the most God awful, Rob Liefeld sort of design that you can. What I was stealing from was... the design of Cable. I hated it. I felt like it looked like they just threw up everything on the character - the scars, the thing going on with his eye, the arm, and what's with all the guns?"
