10 Comics Panels Where You Really Didn't Want To Turn The Next Page

7. Gwen Stacey's Near Save By Spider-Man

The Amazing Spider Man 121 Death Of Gwen Stacey
Marvel Comics

The death of Gwen Stacey is one of the most important events in Peter Parker's life. Not only was she his girlfriend he loved above all else, but it was also partly his fault that she died. The event absolutely changed Pete's life, and he would never be the same again.

It's one of those character-defining moments, and even decades later, after he's been married and moved on, the death of Gwen Stacey still strikes hard at the young superhero. Her demise came in the pages of The Amazing Spider-Man #121 after the Green Goblin captures her, and taunts Spider-Man atop a bridge.

The Goblin throws her over the ledge, and she is high enough that there's no possible way she would survive the fall. Peter doesn't hesitate, and thanking his spider-powers for giving him the ability to fire some webbing to catch her, the line grabs the young woman by the legs, halting her fall.

If you were paying attention, the panel before the last one shows a small onomatopoeia of the word "SNAP!" If you caught it you knew her neck snapped when the line caught, and as he's pulling his beloved back to 'safety,' turning that page meant Spider-Man's life would never be the same again.
