The Green Lantern Corps is a massive spacefaring organization that polices the universe, but like any organization charged with the protection of others, there are rules each member has to follow. Green Lanterns must maintain their sectors, they need to report back to Oa, and they must never, under any circumstances, witness the beginning of time.

Back in Green Lantern #40, Krona, a scientist on Oa, witnessed the beginning of time, and it didn't go well. When Krona looked back, he saw what appeared to be the creation of the universe. A giant hand holding what looked like a spiral galaxy appeared, but the act of witnessing it interrupted the process of creation.

That hiccup is what created the Antimatter Universe, making the DC Multiverse a reality. Ever since that happened, it has been strictly forbidden to look back at the beginning, leaving the true nature of the beginning of the universe a mystery.

While many secrets are ultimately revealed in the comics, it's unlikely this secret will ever see any further details about what actually happened at the beginning of everything. It has been brought up a number of times over the years, but in the end, it will remain a mystery.
