10 Comics That Never Got An Ending

2. Battle Chasers

Daredevil The Target
WildStorm / Image Comics

People often cite Joe Madureira as the man who brought manga and anime influence to mainstream American comics with his run on Uncanny X-Men. His tenure on this title would see his popularity reach such heights that anything with his name on it was a guaranteed smash. Like Jim Lee and the other image founders before him, Madureira would leave Marvel to concentrate on other ventures, especially his book, Battle Chasers.

If you were to look up "Perfect first story arc", you would find "See Battle Chasers: A Gathering Of Heroes". It introduced readers to a vibrant cast of heroes in a brand new world. It set up countless intriguing plot threads and felt like a fully fleshed out concept rather than just a series of well-drawn pictures that a writer cobbled together a story around. The adventures of Gully, Garrison and the gang looked like a sure-fire hit and something fans would invest in long term.

Then the book started shipping late, and the backup stories began being longer than the main story. If this wasn't bad enough, Madureira seemed hell-bent on wrapping up the plot threads as quickly as possible. There was brief hope with the news of a new push with issue nine onwards, but Madureira went off to make video games, and the book remains incomplete.
