10 Comics That Saved Hated Characters

5. Shazam - 2019 Series

With the Shazam 2019 series, the case was less one of him being hated, and more one of the way he had started to be handled being hated. For example, the fact that his previous run in 2013 was placed intermittently in the Justice League left a sour tase in many fans' mouths, as it disrupted the pacing of one of DC's major comics with material that already existed in another comic.

A mixture of this and a more salient storyline made for 2019 to be something of a redemption in regards to dealings surrounding Shazam. The 2019 series focuses far more on Billy Batson and his adjustment to the weird world of being a child superhero than merely focusing on his origins and conflict with Black Adam.

With the magical bizarreness of the Magic Lands linked to Shazam having not been explored for such a considerable amount of time, the reintroduction of this can also be seen as a significant move on the road to the character's full redemption.
